Fall is in the air. To some people the first sign is when Starbucks starts serving its pumpkin spice latte. To others (certainly not me) it is that football games dominate the weekends. To me, it is the sweet smell of new TV hitting our airwaves. Ahhh I love a good new season of television.
Once again I took a hiatus from blogging for the summer to recharge my batteries—it takes a lot of energy to write my posts! And I was a tad busy with some other things these past few months, like, oh I don’t know, packing up all my earthly belongings and moving 3,000 miles back to my hometown of Los Angeles. As you can imagine I had a lot to do…find a storage unit, unpack, go to the DMV, meet Ted Mosby…yes, you read that correctly: I MET TED MOSBY THIS SUMMER.
About a month ago I was fortunate enough to meet Josh Radnor—the one and only Ted Mosby, he who pulls off red cowboy boots. As you know from reading this blog, How I Met Your Mother is one of my absolute favorite shows and I personally rank it among the comedy giants. Have some of the recent seasons of HIMYM seen its ups and down in terms of quality? Sure. But hey, it is entering its 8th season tonight and I give this show major props for still making me laugh and cry year after year…plus, we still have to meet the mother.
So how did I encounter “Ted Mosby”? Well, I would love to say it was at MacLaren’s, but alas I also was smacked with the reality that Ted Mosby is a fictional character. Despite my slightly fan-obsessed thoughts that like to believe that Ted and the gang actually exist in a little bar in Manhattan, Josh Radnor is not actually Ted Mosby. But he is a nice guy who politely put up with my attempt at awkward conversation on the set of a movie in which I was an extra. I showed up that day as a volunteer with a friend, not knowing anything about the film. As I went hunting for the trailer bathroom, I passed through the parking lot and lo and behold, it was a TV fan dream-come-true: the only other person in the parking lot—also heading toward the trailers—was Mr. Josh Radnor. I honestly can’t remember exactly what came out of my mouth, as I tried not to come across as a crazy person, but we had a brief but polite chat and that was that. I later saw him on set and even filmed a scene with him [if by “filmed” you include me walking by for .2 seconds before he actually acted in the scene with real actors].
While it is officially safe to say that I am not the real-life “mother” (dangit) I can also say that the little encounter was legen-wait-for-it-dary for this TV watcher and blogger. And it got me even more excited for a new year of TV. On that note…
The Emmys are the true start to my fall because that event really signals the return to television madness. And there are certainly a lot of great shows on the air—not all of which come back immediately, which is probably for the best given how many I watch. So once again I am faced with the conundrum of how many great shows there are versus how many I can realistically commit to recapping every single week. I think I have decided that for this TV season I will stick with regular weekly recaps for both HIMYM and 90210 (I love to be snarky too much to give this one up) and then TRY to do a third post each week on different shows that I enjoy. Perhaps each week I will write about something that was awesome and something that was not so great from among the many that I watch, including but not limited to: Once Upon a Time, Revenge, Happy Endings, Modern Family, Downton Abbey, Mad Men, Homeland, Suburgatory, The Office (IF they can get their final season to compel me), or any of the new shows about the start.
Hope you will follow along for the ride! Happy Fall!
